This is the print left on my kitchen window by a collared dove. It was being chased by a sparrowhawk and as it dived to try to escape, it flew straight towards the window, crashed into it and fell to the ground. The sparrowhawk grabbed it and started to pluck it, but then it spotted me and flew away with the dove in it's talons.

Supply and demand
Got loads of collared doves round here, I'm sure we won't notice losing a few to such a worthy cause - the sparrowhawk was beautiful, but too quick for me to get a shot of him
-
- 2009-03-18 @ 11:53:39
Food chain in action... And its certainly left a lasting impression on the window
xx-
- 2009-03-18 @ 14:21:10
Not very lasting - I cleaned it off after I took the pic - can't be staring at that while I'm doing the cooking

Amazing how they do that isn't it? A great flying thump into the window and they just fly off as though nothing had happened!

Great idea to capture the imprint

Errrr this one didn't fly away - it was carried away

Yes of course, but usually they do... I guess in some ways this bird was special... though I don't suppose it thought so!
-
- 2009-03-18 @ 20:16:03
Maybe it thought it could hide from the sparrow hawk in my kitchen

A pity the Sparrow Hawk made off with his prize before I could get a shot of him - I crept round the corner, hoping he'd be too busy plucking the dove to notice me, but no chance. Silly of me to even try I suppose, as I know what marvellous vision they've got, but there you go.....
